Therapeutic Services

The counseling session, Play Therapy / $159.00 - $359.00

Is psychotherapy for children and adolescents, sometimes young adults depending on the need. It is the equivalent to counseling for adults, since children do not express their own emotions and problems the same way as their older peer groups.

As a trained and certified therapist, the doctor will use in-person playtime to observe and explore the child's concerns. This essential medium of therapy helps the child understand emotions and deal with unresolved problems, even extending to traumatic events.

This supportive outlet will help the child learn new coping skills and how to eliminate inappropriate behaviors. It may take a few visits, as children tend to be reluctant to trust a new person but given time the child will become more comfortable and their bond strengths, which shows in their play through creativity and verbal interaction. The potential gains from play therapy are significant for child development and can be the pivotal solution they need to be the best versions of themselves.

Psychotherapies

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Nurtures the individual child, focusing on healing and strengthening their ability to control and grow from problems. By playing the doctor will support the child through therapeutic sessions helping the child learn from their emotions, develop trust and confidence, and improve overall behavior that holds them back. During a separate period, the doctor will meet with the parents to provide feedback about their child and how they are progressing with treatment goals, offering insight and guidance toward next steps. When appropriate the doctor will coordinate the child and family together to either talk or play through a session, helping parents understand the child's concerns and in-time be a more effective parent for their child.

FAMILY THERAPY

Focuses on the family as a whole, enriching relationships and healing the concerns within. The doctor will use play in a variety of formats to support family dynamics; depending on the concerns it may include holding play sessions with siblings, engaging in play with an individual parent and child, or playing games with the entire family to work through solutions together. This may also lead to the doctor working independently with the individual child, to provide clarity around their concerns in order to communicate them to others in the family. Play is much more than the action, it's an essential developmental marker for children and can help families connect to one another -expressing feelings, solving problems and building lifelong skills.

GROUP THERAPY

Involves the doctor working with several children during a session. Group therapy is sometimes used alone, but oftentimes integrated into a comprehensive intervention plan that includes individual therapy with the child.

Groups are usually small with three or four kids, but can be up to eight to 12 children working together toward a common goal. The group typically meets once or twice each week, sometimes more depending on the need, for an hour or two. Group therapy meetings may either be open or closed depending on the concerns.

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges of:

• Social Communication And Interaction
• Restricted And Reputative Behaviors
• Sensory Concerns

Every individual on the autism spectrum has unique abilities, symptoms, and challenges. Finding treatment that addresses an individual's needs is the most helpful thing one can do for early intervention.

DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENT

Developmental Assessments are used to gain information about infant through childhood characteristics and abilities through either direct measurement, such as test administration and observations of developmental skills:

• Cognition
• Communication
• Social-Emotional and Behavior
• Physical Skills
• Adaptive Skills

The five stages of child development include the newborn, infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age stages. Children undergo various changes in terms of physical, speech, intellectual and cognitive development gradually until adolescence.

ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER

A diagnosis of ADHD is determined by the number and severity of symptoms, the duration of symptoms and the degree to which these symptoms cause impairment in various areas of life, such as home, school or work; with friends or relatives; or in other activities. It is possible to meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD without any symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity. Furthermore, it must be determined if these symptoms are caused by other conditions or are influenced by co-existing conditions.

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

Individuals are usually referred for testing due to difficulties in school or university, testing will help determine whether the person has a learning disability and their strengths/limitations. The doctor will assess for seven areas of cognitive development:

• Fluid Reasoning
• Verbal Reasoning
• Short-Term Memory • Long-Term Memory
• Visual-Spatial
• Processing Speed • Auditory Processing

EMOTIONAL/BEHAVIORAL EVALUATION

Social/Emotional Testing is helpful when an individual is experiencing emotional or behavioral problems. Testing may be appropriate if the individual is experiencing difficulties in some of these areas:

• Difficulty Focusing And Concentrating
• Moodiness Or Emotional Outbursts
• Social Withdrawal • Isolating From Friends/Family
• Decline In School/Work Performance

INDEPENDENT EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

When a parent of a family member with a disability does not agree with the results of the individualized evaluation conducted by the school system, you have the right, set forth by the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA), to obtain an IEE (§300.502) usually at public expense (paid by the school system).

This means that you may ask that a professional evaluator who is not employed by the school system conduct another evaluation of the family member with a formal written letter to administration/the special education director, requesting any provider of your choosing.
