Diagnostic & Intervention

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges of:

• Social Communication And Interaction
• Restricted And Reputative Behaviors

INDEPENDENT EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

When a parent of a family member with a disability does not agree with the results of the individualized evaluation conducted by the school system, you have the right, set forth by the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA), to obtain an IEE (§300.502) usually at public expense (paid by the school system).

This means that you may ask that a professional evaluator who is not employed by the school system conduct another evaluation of the family member with a formal written letter to administration/the special education director, requesting any provider of your choosing.

ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER

A diagnosis of ADHD is determined by the number and severity of symptoms, the duration of symptoms and the degree to which these symptoms cause impairment in various areas of life, such as home, school or work; with friends or relatives; or in other activities. It is possible to meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD without any symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity. Furthermore, it must be determined if these symptoms are caused by other conditions or are influenced by co-existing conditions.
