As a former employee (retired in 2019) and current contractor, Dr. Perala continues to provide Psychoeducational Evaluations on a case-by-case need for the Special Education Program, offering specialization in areas of Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Social-Emotional Behavior, and bilingual learners. Partnered with Child Protective Services to conduct Forensic Evaluations for allegations of neglect and abuse of children. Dr. Perala coordinated assessments of parents and family members who were either current caregivers of the child, or the alleged person(s) of interest in case. Through extensive interviewing and background collection, Dr. Perala would test for a multitude of concerns in areas of personality traits and psychopathology, competency and cognitive ability, drug/substance abuse, including psychopharmacology overview.
Dr. Perala’s role would extend to the child’s welfare in the case if resources were deemed necessary for placement. The type of testing involved ranged from best interest and developmental assessments to diagnostic and performance testing to support recommendations for care of child. Furthermore, Dr. Perala consulted with Case Managers, often times, Court Officials (Attorneys/Mediators) providing expert testimony and clinical opinion with reporting information of the child’s welfare and opportunity to thrive in permanent placement.
